自1988年以同名专辑与其中单曲Fast Car进入歌坛并且一鸣惊人以来，特蕾西查普曼就一直被视为创作型才女歌手。1964年出生于美国克里夫兰，是美国的说唱歌手，1986年拿到大学人类学学位后，继续在波士顿寻求发展。1988年的首张专辑Tracy Chapman不仅在英美两地都拿下排行冠军，在第31届葛莱美奖上崔西查普曼抱走“年度新人”、“流行女歌手”、“最佳现代民谣专辑”三座大奖。
